I-N-L-A-W-S, what does that spell?

FUN TIMES! This last week we had a nice visit from my man's parents. We have been privileged to have them come out in the fall for the last few years. When we owned a home they usually came to help with a project (I know, they are great huh?!), but because we are renting and in a new place they got to just come and chill--hooray! Here's a TOP TEN list of our favorite memories of their visit.

10--S#2 realizing that he and Grandpa share a name
9--S#1 having a captive question answerer (Grandma)
8--Renting a VAN for our trip to see Fall colors (we figured we better "rule in/out" the carpool mobile)
7--Handing S#1 the map and repeatedly asking her, "are we there yet?"
6--Missing our exit because S#1 had a hold of said map
5--Eating yummy cheese, cherries (crisp & chocolate covered) and HONEYCRISP APPLES!!
4--Viewing beautiful fall leaves up close and up HIGH
3--S#1's confidence in the condo's swimming pool
2--Staying up late playing SCRABBLE!! Why is it that the poorest speller in the group WON nearly every game?
1--Seeing the connection between grandparents and grandchildren GROW

Some other funny things to note:
  • My mother-in-law hates the name mother-in-law and would rather be called a Green-eyed Monster. She is a great woman and that name would never fit! She strikes the perfect balance of being interested but not overly-involved. Plus she always tells me I am doing a great job and that makes me feel really wonderful. Do you know monsters that make people feel wonderful? I don't.
  • Our Scrabble games induced some HILARIOUS discussions. Mostly as players were exploring word options. My great mother-in-law (who may kill me for this--thus the monster name just might be appropriate) asked if "LAWNSEX" was a word--she was desperately trying to rid herself of an "X." A#1 responded with, "Yes, but you've got to watch out for grass stains." A#1 also had a 60-point word that forced a lead we could never catch.
Clearly good times were had by all!

p.s. it was so nice to entertain guests in 1800 square feet as opposed to 800! Hooray for an extra bedroom and bathroom!!

Family time is something that I ALWAYS enjoy. I miss the days when we lived so close, but look forward to it sometime again down the road. Isn't it the case, too, that you never can quite explain how funny a moment was when it comes to family? It always seems like I have to follow it up with, "You just HAD to be there!"

Sounds like you had a blast! Curious what you thought of the van. The scrabble story is hilarious - reminds me of many evenings of playing Settlers with you guys in Maui!
