Thar Be Good Things Happening in These Parts!

The Dread Pirate and the Sweet Pious Angel
Halloween was of course a week ago, it was GREAT! The big A had the afternoon off, so we had plenty of time to carve pumpkins and reminisce about our engagement 11 years ago (yup--that's right, engaged on Halloween, the ring was in a pumpkin covered with pumpkin guts and he asked if he "could be my spook forever"). After hearing the story S#1 kept asking if there would be a pretty ring in her pumpkin. Maybe I will have to start a tradition of putting a fun surprise inside our kids' pumpkins every Halloween night.

He adored his mustache, sword and "pirate patch"
She loved that her dress sparkled (I sprayed it with glitter!!)

Our neighborhood transformed from Friday morning to Friday night. Homes and yards were decorated with lights, webs, tombstones, and HUMONGOUS spiders hanging in the trees. Tricks were played at a few homes--both involving fake hands--S#2 was totally SPOOKED! I loved getting to meet some of the neighbors we haven't met and having a chance to see everyone all decked out it their Halloween best. It also didn't hurt that the weather was perfect! I trick-or-treated in short-sleeves (the high was in the 70s earlier in the day).

Of course a mouth FULL of candy and the GOOD witch who let her eat GOBS of it!

I took the opportunity to dress as a witch--you know it's the day of the year that you get to be something crazy and different, so I was a GOOD witch. My striped purple and black tights and funky broom were my favorite parts--sorry they aren't pictured.

The most rewarding part of the night (aside from the "Parent Tax" on the collected candy) was witnessing the politeness of our two little ones. When you see and hear them say the things you've taught them, but don't get to see all of the time at home, you know that you're doing something right. HOORAY for unprompted "Happy Halloweens," "Thank Yous," "Arghs," and "Yo Ho Hos!"

Hope your haunting last week was a BLAST!!

How cute...glad to see that my philosophy of allowing a little candy gorging on Halloween is sanctioned by a professional:). And I feel the same way about the manners...nothing like a little candy to motivate them!

CUTE costumes!!! I realized while looking at the photos that I am so sad to have to see your kids grow up in photos and not in person anymore :( They both look so much older already! It sounds like you live in a great area for families! I was remembering Anna's Halloween baby shower from last year and your fab witch costume :) We miss you guys!

Mae, I can't believe how cute your little ones are - I mean, yah it comes from their Mom, but they also have Drew's influence in there. What a great family! And unlike all your considerate friends I forgot you guys got engaged on Halloween, even though I was Drew's roommate at the time - sheesh!

Thanks for the posts.
