We are in Washington, DC for Drew's course at the AFIP (Armed Forces Institute of Pathology). He rides the bus up to Walter Reed Medical Center everyday and sits in lectures with 200 radiologists from around the country. Meanwhile, Sydney, Simon and I hang out and explore our nation's capital. We live in Dupont Circle and are having a great time. One of my favorite things . . . the grocery store is literally a one minute walk from our flat (which I should also mention is bigger than our home in Seattle!).
Today we went on our first "Metro" excursion. I was happy to have an acquaintance from church offer to orient me to the Metro on our way to today's mother's group. I anticipated this being a fun experience because Sydney loves trains (due to her obsession with the "The Polar Express") and was so thrilled to be able to go on a train! I was thrilled that the double stroller fit on the escalators and into the doorways of the Metro train.
We met at the National Building Museum for "mother's group". I forgot my camera, but we will definitely be back. The kids could dress up with all sorts of construction garb (hard hats, tool belts, gloves, aprons, tools); build things with wooden blocks, HUGE legos and foam blocks; they could drive all sorts of trucks around; sit in a "sand pit" (made of bean bags made out of a dirt patterned material) and dig; play in a playhouse, or curl up in a pile of pillows and read about building buildings. It was gated off and designed just for them--dare I say it was LOADS of fun?!
