A Family is Forever

Washington Seattle Temple

A few days ago my sister told me about the passing of a friend from high school. He was a great, great guy and it is just a tragedy that he is no longer on this earth.

Although quite busy with moving (this coming week!!), my thoughts have definitely been turned to the loss of this great man and this trying experience for his family. It has caused me to reflect upon my life, my marriage, my relationships with my children and siblings and ultimately my relationship with my Savior.

Tonight as I was preparing for my final day as primary chorister I was touched by the words from "I Love to See the Temple" by Janice Kapp Perry.

I love to see the temple.
I'll go inside someday.
I'll covenant with my Father;
I'll promise to obey.
For the temple is a holy place
Where we are sealed together.
As a child of God,
I've learned this truth:
A family is forever.*
How grateful I am that the words that may possibly bring the very most comfort to his family at this time are contained in a song that I will get to teach the young children tomorrow. That because of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and the blessings of the temple families can be forever!

Although there is and will be pain because of their loss I know that God "will not leave us comfortless" (John 14:18). He has provided a way for there to be peace now and joy forever!

*I really wish that the punctuation here was an !

Can't stop thinking about them. Makes me want to be better at using EVERY second I have with my loved ones.

I couldn't believe it when I clicked on the link! How sad for his family. It makes me so much more grateful for eternal families.

By the way, what happened to him?

Wow, what a great message. My good friend just told me about her niece that drowned this weekend in the family hot tub, she was only 1 years old...and wow, I can't even imagine what that mother is going through...thanks for the reminder that families really can be forever!

I could tell it was meaningful for you to teach that verse yesterday and it's such a true and beautiful message, the spirit was definitely present.

It is so wonderful that we have that knowledge to comfort in times of sorrow. Thank you for always inviting the Spirit when teaching our Primary.
