I am so thankful for prayer and the opportunity we have to solicit the Lord's aid in helping us find peace in our lives. I am also incredibly grateful for the words of Prophets, present and past. Today I noticed that Elder Wirthlin passed away. His last conference talk was probably written and shared specifically for me. What a wonderful message his mother shared, that in the face of difficulty and disappointment that one should remember "come what may and love it."
Elder Wirthlin gave some wonderful counsel--to learn to laugh, seek the eternal perspective, understand the principle of compensation and to trust in the Father and the Son. I think some of my favorite quotes are these:
I think she may have meant that every life has peaks and shadows and times when it seems that the birds don’t sing and bells don’t ring. Yet in spite of discouragement and adversity, those who are happiest seem to have a way of learning from difficult times, becoming stronger, wiser, and happier as a result.I need to remember, that like Elder Wirthlin, I have seen examples of happy people working through adversity and I myself, have been the beneficiary of amazing compensation from the Lord. Oh that I will have greater faith!!
The Lord compensates the faithful for every loss. That which is taken away from those who love the Lord will be added unto them in His own way. While it may not come at the time we desire, the faithful will know that every tear today will eventually be returned a hundredfold with tears of rejoicing and gratitude.

Drew's woman are so beautiful! I also loved Elder Wirthlin's talk. Thank for sharing today.
I didn't hear about this until reading your blog. Elder Wirthlin was such a great example to all of us and I too loved his last talk, "Come what may and love it", I feel so blessed to have lived at a time to hear his laughter and his words of wisdom. Thanks for sharing.
Ah, that quote is awesome. amazing. thanks for sharing. i needed it today.
I just read that talk on Sunday and loved it! It is always good to have that reminder.
Thanks Mae... that was a great post. I love those quotes... I will need to go back and re-read that talk.
p.s. That is a darling pic! You two are bEaUtIfUl!
I've been having conversations with friends all over about that talk and have felt a connection with it too. One of my favorite parts is when he says we need to learn to laugh. It makes a difficult situation so much better if you can laugh through it, and at yourself if needed!
Our home teacher called EARLY this morning to tell us the news and I first thought of that same talk. It was a great memory from a great conference and has become subconsciously my new motto. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I think you speak for many of us!!!
Thanks for sharing that...like everyone else that commented, I needed to hear that today. I am so thankful that I can read blogs like yours and get a little pick me up. I am happy for Elder Wirthlin, that he has been reunited with his sweetheart. You and your little one are so beautiful...great picture!
I just used that talk for inspiration for a sacrament meeting talk I gave on Sunday, so when I heard the news of his passing I felt a surge of gratitude that he was permitted to live long enough to share those words with us. You're doing good things, A.
Gorgeous picture. I also love that talk and was just reading it the night before he passed away. I think his talk was one of THE BEST ever.
I forgot to tell you - thanks for the Marshmallow World link! Too funny! Hope to chat again soon . . .
THank you
I'll have to read that talk again-- I don't even remember it. My sister made my mom a cross-stitch like thing that says that (come what may and love it) and I had no idea what it was from. I do love Elder Wirthlin, though. His talks were always wonderful-- and often witty-- even when he had almost no inflection in his voice whatsoever.
The popcorn is from our first Christmas together. We triple dipped it in wax and it has held up well through it all. Susanna has been playing with it and pulling individual pieces off the string, though, so it might not last much longer. And we do usually string cranberries but we haven't gotten around to it yet. I love the cranberries. I love both, but especially the cranberries.
You always have such uplifiting things to share! I love it!THANKS!
